“Oh yes, people of Zion, citizens of Jerusalem, your time of tears is over. Cry for help and you’ll find it’s grace and more grace. The moment he hears, he’ll answer. Just as the Master kept you alive during the hard times, he’ll keep your teacher alive and present among you. Your teacher will be right there, local and on the job, urging you on whenever you wander left or right: ‘This is the right road. Walk down this road.’ You’ll scrap your expensive and fashionable god-images. You’ll throw them in the trash as so much garbage, saying, ‘Good riddance!’” (Isaiah 30: 19-22, The Message)
well whaddaya know, i’ve been found all over again.

it’s amazing how the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, not only enables, but transforms. imagine that. peter parker wasn’t just a geeky photographer dealing with a lot of issues–he’d become Spiderman, saving the world using sticky web power. the powerpuff girls weren’t just made up of the usual stuff girls were made of. add a wallop of Chemical X to the equation, and they end up saving the world before bedtime.
you and i are ordinary people, but as we’re filled with the Spirit–as we allow ourselves to be filled with the Spirit–we become transformed. we are other than ourselves. we don’t become otherwordly creatures who can control the weather, multiply lunch, or walk on water, mind you–as we are filled and enabled and transformed, we do things that are beyond our natural selves. like forgive the unforgiveable, love the unloveable, and yes, concentrate on work.
we have a guide, a teacher, a mentor, a helper who’ll whisper to us where to go. and we won’t get lost or stumble or be tripped. cos he always knows better than we can ever, ever know.
